That’s hard to answer. I had a similar problem when I tried to plug in my old Nano into my new cars USB. It would not work at all. But it would recharge it because it was drawing a current. I later found out that the firmware within the Nano was out of date. After a link to Apple & a download, all was well. But on another note, RCA does make some cheap electronics. It’s a brand I would never buy. They used to be an American company known for quality. After they out sourced all their manufacturing overseas, the quality plunged to rock bottom. Keep it if you like, but soon you will either be throwing it away or selling it on the web for whatever you can get for it.
