Apple remote control MMS in Macmini with Ubuntu, mplayer playing HD video and RMVB with Chinese subtitle, unicode support As a previous Apple TV owner, I really happy with the nice interface and how nitotv handle big video collection like me. However, due to the hardware limitation, it cant handle high bitrates content such as HDTV and RMVB. When I come across Mac mini it seems to be a prefect solution for me, slick design and better hardware with apple remote. The only problem with me is frontrow in OSX do not provide the same plug-in as in apple tv, I tried to use xbmc, mythtv and various HTPC software but they just lack of the simplicity that I after. Until I found MMS, its straight forward and easy to use. Especially it can use all kind of media player as your choice, Mplayer, VLC..etc All I need is install ubuntu, setup and config mplayer then install mss. Here is the little demo of my setup, I did indeed spend some time in lirc and mplayer in order to get the best result.
